Hormones in Pregnancy
During pregnancy hormones called oestrogen and progesterone in your blood (chemicals that prepare your body for giving birth) increase. This increase can have some side-effects on how you are feeling, both physically and emotionally. These can include 'mood swings', where you can go from feeling happy and contented to angry, irritable, sad or depressed. Many women feel like this during pregnancy and it is absolutely normal due to the changes happening in your body, so try not to worry too much about it.
Morning Sickness - This is definitely a misleading name for this unpleasant side-effect of pregnancy. Around 80 per cent of pregnant women suffer from nausea and not just in the mornings! Many women feel waves of nausea throughout the day and some feel sick all the time. It seems to hit a peak at around nine to 10 weeks and generally starts to improve after the 14 week mark. Nobody really knows what causes it, but experts believe high levels of circulating hormones are to blame.
